Founding Charter
Founding draft · Version 1.0
Our founding charter
The charter describes YMAI’s purpose, membership, leadership, country chapters, student associations, safeguarding, finances, and how decisions can change over time.
This is a founding draft for consultation. It has not been formally adopted and is not a certificate of registration. Any incorporation documents must satisfy the law of the relevant jurisdiction.
Leadership that can grow
Matthew Williams is YMAI’s founder and current organiser. The draft provides a defined founding period, followed by a transition to a representative student board.
Founding leadership protects continuity while the network is established. It does not override safeguarding, legal duties, independent review of complaints, or proper financial controls.
Additional leadership and advisory positions are proposed roles; they are not presented as filled. Appointments and the charter’s adoption will be recorded publicly when they occur.
Accountability from the start
- Written recognition for chapters and student associations.
- Clear limits on fundraising and use of the YMAI name.
- Conflict-of-interest declarations and recorded decisions.
- Appropriate adult and institutional support for younger members.
- Published leadership and annual activity updates as the organisation grows.
YMAI is currently unregistered. No charitable registration number, tax-exempt status, or institutional partnership is claimed.
